The New Zealand government, led by Minister of Transport Hon Simeon Brown, has announced significant changes to the fees for Class 1 driver licence testing, effective from 8 July 2024. These changes aim to streamline the testing process and address the long wait times currently faced by aspiring drivers.

What You Need to Know
For Applications Before 8 July 2024:
- If you applied for your licence or booked your test online before 8 July, you can still change or rebook your test for free.
- You have until 7 October 2024 to pass your test and complete your application without incurring any additional fees.
- If you do not pass by 7 October 2024, you will be subject to the new fees starting from 8 October 2024.
- It's recommended to change or cancel your test as early as possible to allow others to book the slot.
For Applications From 8 July 2024:
- Your application fee will cover your first and second test attempts.
- If you need to take the test more than twice, a fee will be charged for each subsequent test.
- Fees may apply for changing, cancelling, or rebooking your test.
